Coaches
Coaches play a vital role in making Special Olympics possible—and we’d love to have you join the team!
To coach with Coppell Special Olympics, you’ll need to complete the Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Coach Certification Program, which includes:
Becoming a Class A Volunteer
Completing an online concussion awareness course
Taking a sport-specific training
All training is available online and is easy to complete on your own schedule.
Coaches typically lead one practice per week and support athletes at competitions. Most seasons last about 8 weeks, ending with one or two days of competition. Some teams may participate in additional scrimmages or meets before official events—it’s up to the coach!
We currently offer the following sports in Coppell: Aquatics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Soccer, and Track & Field. While we have amazing coaches in place, we’re always looking for more certified coaches to help us grow and offer more teams.
Interested in something we don’t offer yet?
SOTX Area 10 also supports sports like Equestrian, Golf, Gymnastics, Sailing, Softball, Pickleball, Flag Football, and Volleyball. While Coppell doesn’t currently have teams in these sports, we have the support and resources to help you start one if you're interested.
Ready to make a difference? We’d love to hear from you!
Training Assistants
Training assistants are a key part of our team, helping support athletes and coaches during practices and competitions.
They may assist with group activities or be paired with an athlete to provide one-on-one encouragement. It’s a great way to get involved, make a difference, and have fun doing it!
While coaching certification isn’t required, training assistants need to complete the Special Olympics Texas Class A Volunteer application before participating.
Volunteers need to be in middle school or older. Many middle and high school students serve as training assistants and earn community service hours while building lasting connections and gaining valuable experience.
Special Events Volunteers
We welcome volunteers of all ages to help out on the day of our special events. These events are a fun and rewarding way to get involved—whether you have a few hours or the whole day to give!
Current events include our annual athlete and volunteer banquet, community parades, and our largest fundraiser, the Coppell 5K.
Planning Committee Members
The Planning Committee plays a vital role in supporting the success of our delegation through fundraising, organization, and decision-making.
Committee members take on a variety of responsibilities, including assisting the Head of Delegation, managing athlete registration, coordinating volunteers and volunteer applications, fundraising, planning special events, managing publicity and website updates, and handling bookkeeping, hospitality, uniforms, and spirit wear.
We’re always happy to welcome new committee members! Members are asked to attend a one-hour meeting every other month and contribute in an area that aligns with their skills or interests.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to get involved behind the scenes, we’d love to have you on the team!
